About this tour

This six-day tour focuses on exploring the history, archaeology and traditions of northern Peru, with a focus on sustainability and respect for local communities and their customs. The trip begins in Trujillo with a walking tour of the historic center, where you will visit important colonial monuments and learn about the city's cultural legacy. The day continues with a cultural show celebrating the traditions of the Marinera Trujillana and the Peruvian Paso Horse.

The next day, you will enter the archaeological routes of the Moche and Chimú cultures. You visit the Huacas del Sol and Huacas de la Luna, where you explore their impressive murals and the cosmovision of the ancient inhabitants. Then, the trip continues to Chan Chan, the largest mud city in the world, and to the seaside resort of Huanchaco, where you can observe the traditional caballitos de totora, used since pre-Inca times.

On the third day, the tour heads north to visit El Brujo, an important Moche complex where the famous Tattooed Mummy of the Lady of Cao is found. After lunch with local flavors, we arrive in Chiclayo, where we explore markets and visit the archaeological sites of Huaca Rajada and the Royal Tombs Museum, where the treasures of the Lord of Sipan are exhibited.

The fourth day is dedicated to the Sipan route in Chiclayo, where we delve into the archaeological discoveries and burial rituals of the Mochica culture, especially the tomb of the Lord of Sipan. Afterwards, the group travels to Chachapoyas, a destination known for its impressive Kuelap fortress, a high-altitude monumental complex that rivals Machu Picchu. Along the way, you can enjoy panoramic views and pre-Inca architectural formations.

The next day, the trip includes a hike to the Gocta Waterfall, one of the highest waterfalls in the world, surrounded by a landscape full of biodiversity, such as endemic birds and orchids. During the hike, guides explain the conservation efforts being carried out in the area.

The tour ends with a transfer to the Chachapoyas airport, closing a trip full of history, nature and culture.

Itinerary

  • Reception at the Trujillo airport and transfer to the selected hotel.
  • Check-in.
  • City Walking Tour (starts approx. 10:00 a.m.): Guided tour through the historic center of Trujillo, duration approx. 3 hrs, visiting:

      • Trujillo Cathedral
      • Museum of Archaeology of the National University
      • Stop at local market
  • Free time for lunch:

We will enjoy a spectacular cultural show of approximately 30 minutes:

      • Dance of the Marinera Trujillana, expression of the northern soul.
      • Exhibition of Peruvian Paso Horse, The breed is recognized for its elegance.

  • Return to hotel (approx. 3:30 p.m.)
    • Rest of the day at leisure to rest or explore the historic center on your own.

    • Pick up at hotel and departure to the south of Trujillo, beginning of the Moche Route.
    • Visit to the Site Museum of Huacas de Moche:
      • We will observe original pieces found during archaeological excavations.
      • Visual and cultural introduction to the majesty of the Huacas del Sol and de la Luna.
    • Guided walk through the Huacas del Sol y de la Luna Archaeological Complex, Approximate duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes:
      • We will see the polychrome murals that reveal the cosmovision and ritual life of the Mochica culture.
      • Interpretation by a specialized guide on the symbolism and construction techniques.
    • Stop at the Moche Artisan's House:
      • We will observe how traditional ceramic pieces are made using ancestral techniques.
      • Option to purchase handcrafted souvenirs
  • Lunch at local restaurant recommended, with regional ingredients. (Vegetarian option available)
  • Visit to the Chan Chan Site Museum:
    • Scale model and exhibition on the urban planning of the largest adobe citadel in the world.
  • Tour of the Nik An Palace (Chan Chan):
    • Walk among its walls decorated with reliefs representing fishing, marine fauna and nets.
    • Interpretation of the daily life of the Chimú and their relationship with the sea.
  • Arrival at Huanchaco Beach:
  • Observation of traditional caballitos de totora, used by local fishermen since pre-Hispanic times.

  • Overnight in Huanchaco, in beachfront accommodations.

    • 6:00 a.m. (optional): Observation of the work of local fishermen who, at dawn, enter the sea with their boats. caballitos de totora, preserving a millenary tradition.

During the tour, our guide will interpret the coastal landscapes and Andean mountains that accompany the route to the valley of the Chicama River.

  • Arrival at El Brujo Archaeological Complex - Huaca Cao Viejo:

Guided tour of the Moche ceremonial site. Visit to the Site Museum, where the famous Tattooed Mummy - Lady of Cao, considered one of the most important sovereigns of ancient Peru. Interpretation of funerary techniques, body art and the role of women in the Moche elite.

  • Time to enjoy a local lunch on the way, with traditional flavors of the valley. (Vegetarian option available)

Continuation of the trip to Chiclayo

  • Estimated arrival: 4:00 p.m.

    • Guided tour of the famous Warlock Market, in downtown Chiclayo.
      • We will discover a rich mix of medicinal herbs, ritual objects and natural products used in the traditional medicine of northern Peru.

  • Departure to Huaca Rajada (Lambayeque):
  • Visit to the archaeological site where the tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered..
  • Tour of the Site Museum, The museum preserves original pieces and allows us to contextualize this historical find.
  • Interpretation of the excavation process, funerary rituals and legacy of the Mochica elite.
  • Free time for lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Option to have lunch with typical dishes such as rice with duck, seco de cabrito or northern ceviche (vegetarian option available).
  • In the afternoon, visit to the emblematic Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipan Museum (Lambayeque):
  • Considered one of the best museums in South America, it stands out for its architecture inspired by Mochica pyramids.
  • We will observe gold jewelry, ceramics and textiles that reveal the splendor of ancient Peru.

  • Transfer to the bus station for departure to Chachapoyas.

7:30 pm: Departure by Mobile Bus 160°.  

  • 6:00 am.Arrival in the morning to Chachapoyas. Pick up and transfer to the hotel, so you can have breakfast and leave your things.

9:00 am, Departure to Nuevo Tingo. We will go up the modern cable car system, enjoying spectacular views of the green valleys and mountains that surround the region.

  • Visit to the Kuelap Fortress, Guided tour of the monumental complex located at 3,000 meters above sea level, known as the “Machu Picchu of the North”.”
  • Visit to The Empire, A tour of approximately 30 minutes where we will observe circular and rectangular constructions.
  • Time for lunch
  • Visit to Silic.
  • Return to Chachapoyas.
  • Dinner and Overnight.

Breakfast at the Hotel

  • 8:00 am.Departure to the community of Cocachimba (1 hr approximately), upon arrival we will start one of the best trekking routes.
  • Gocta Waterfall, The journey (approximately 2 hours per section, although it may vary) is done through an ecological trail surrounded by biodiversity: endemic birds, orchids, coffee plantations and native trees. During the walk, a guide will share information about the fauna, flora and the community's efforts to conserve this fragile ecosystem.
  • Once at the waterfall we will take time to rest and admire its beauty, we will also enjoy a picnic.
  • Then we return to the Cocachimba Community to enjoy the local gastronomy.
  • Return to Chachapoyas
  • Overnight
